Shout out for 100 Men Who Care
Dear Editor:
Re: 100 Men of Kawartha Lakes has raised over $250,000 for local charities over past seven years (Spare News; Dec 19, 2024)
Did you know that Penticton has its own 100 Men Who Care? While not yet at the membership numbers of Kawartha Lakes (100 Men is still an aspirational number for us!), we have nonetheless raised more than $212,000 since our inception in June 2016.
Like Kawartha Lakes, the 100 Men Who Care Penticton program is administered by our local Community Foundation of the South Okanagan Similkameen. Our goal is to hit $250,000 in total donations in 2025, and we’re actively looking for new members to help make that happen. You can find out more on the Community Foundation’s webpage:

Shout out for Children of Men
Dear Editor:
At this time of year, thereB次元官网网址 no shortage of Christmas movies and TV shows. There are retellings of the biblical story of the birth of Jesus, ItB次元官网网址 A Wonderful Life, Elf, A Charlie Brown Christmas, Dr. Seuss鈥 How the Grinch Stole Christmas, several versions of Charles Dickens鈥 A Christmas Carol, made-for-TV holiday romances, and many more.
Joshua Gibbs is the director of The Classical Teaching Institute at The Ambrose School (Meridian, Idaho). In his review of the 2006 dystopian action thriller Children of Men, he describes it as 鈥渢he greatest Christmas movie of all time鈥.
Children of Men (youtube.com/watch?v=2VT2apoX90o) stars Clive Owen and Julianne Moore, with a screenplay based on P. D. James鈥 1992 novel The Children of Men. The film is set in 2027 when two decades of human infertility have left society on the brink of collapse. Asylum seekers seek sanctuary in the United Kingdom, where they are subjected to detention and deportation by the government.
Reviewer Gibbs says Children of Men is 鈥渢imeless鈥 in a truly theological sense of the word.

Try a little conversation
Dear Editor:
Western propaganda has framed the Ukraine conflict as a battle between good (the West) and evil (Putin/Russia).
Where peace through diplomacy is seen as dangerous appeasement, while in contrast, war is presented as virtuous and just.
Both the collective West and UkraineB次元官网网址 Valdimir Zelenskyy, (who clings to office by cancelling elections) have continually avoided negotiations, while pretending Russia is unwilling to engage.
If we had talked three years ago, how many Ukrainian lives would have been saved?
In three years, so many have died or been wounded, Ukraine now has manpower shortages on the front line, and forces them to lower the draft age. Russia has said, - it is willing to negotiate an end to the fighting. But Western leaders refused to talk to Russia.
AmericaB次元官网网址 strategy has been to provoke Russia. This US strategy was exposed on CNN, by senator Linsey Graham, who said America expects to benefit from the huge critical mineral deposit in Ukraine, telling Zelensky on a visit to Kevi - 鈥淩ussians are dying. ItB次元官网网址 the best money we鈥檝e ever spent.鈥
While Senator Mitch MacConnell called the Ukraine war, 鈥渁n investment in AmericaB次元官网网址 national security,鈥 and senator Mitt Romney calls Ukraine, 鈥渢he best defense spending.鈥 - It is obvious to those with good reading comprehension, - it is America that has prolonged the Ukraine war and block attempts to resolved it because American arms manufactures were making too much profit.
As the war rages on, Ukrainian causalities grows and the publicB次元官网网址 support wanes. A Gallop recently revealed that no region in Ukraine had a majority supporting continuing the war, Ukrainian leaders face a reality where their own people are disillusioned.

B次元官网网址 doesn鈥檛 need a new sign
Dear Editor:
I am shocked to read that the City of B次元官网网址 is planning to erect yet another sign aggrandizing B次元官网网址 downtown at an estimated cost of $500,000.
Money that could be better spent on more urgent and necessary items.
But back to the proposed sign, the justification for it seems upon reading to be psychobabble created by AI.
If a visitor or resident doesn鈥檛 know that they are in the heart of B次元官网网址 then they only have to lift their heads to see the B次元官网网址 Yacht Club sign or turn their head slightly to see the B次元官网网址 City Hall sign or a bit further the B次元官网网址 Visitors Centre sign.
ItB次元官网网址 this kind of waste of money that erodes our trust in our elected officials and their judgement.
